Anonymous User Inscribes Full U.S. Constitution on Bitcoin Blockchain for $83.41

BTC-0.12%

An anonymous Bitcoin user inscribed the complete text of the U.S. Constitution onto the Bitcoin blockchain late Thursday, paying approximately $83.41 in transaction fees for the 44.4 kilobyte inscription, according to a blockchain explorer.

The inscription was made using Bitcoin's OP_RETURN output field, which allows users to attach data to transactions. The feat became possible following last year's removal of a byte limit on that field, previously capping the size of inscribable data. The change has sparked ongoing debates within the Bitcoin developer community regarding the network's original purpose and utility.
