AkzoNobel Rejects Nippon Paint's $86 Billion Decorative Coatings Acquisition Offer

According to AkzoNobel, on Monday the company rejected Nippon Paint's $86 billion acquisition proposal for its decorative coatings business, stating the offer "significantly undervalued" the unit. The Dutch paint giant's board and management said they continue to recommend proceeding with a planned merger with Axalta Coating Systems. The merger is expected to create a coatings producer with a market value of approximately $250 billion.
