盼AI is helping Taiwan’s game industry turn things around! ZhiGuan Technology is integrating AI into copywriting, image, and music production.

Taiwan game developer ZhiGuan Technology announced the establishment of an AI development center, hoping to bring different experiences with AI, and said that AI applications may be the next opportunity for Taiwan’s game companies to turn things around; however, many players are not buying into it.

ZhiGuan Technology sets up an AI center and lays out an AI strategy with three key directions

Its Taiwan-based game company ZhiGuan Technology (stock code: 5478), which has China CyberDragon and Game New Frontier, recently announced that it will establish an AI development center, led by Deputy General Manager Li Yinjiang. It will promote its AI strategy from three main tracks:

  • The first track is generative AI: It has already been the first to introduce AI-assisted content production such as copywriting, images, videos, and music. Li Yinjiang told**《工商時報》**** that after the AI-assisted opening video for this year’s spring banquet, the production budget dropped from the traditional 200k yuan to about 20k yuan.**
  • The second track is the B2B domain: The plan is to convert past operational experience into data, strengthening internal efficiency and enabling knowledge to be passed down within the group.
  • The third track is B2C customer service: It hopes to deepen AI and interact with players, while also lowering the digital marketing barrier—thereby expanding its customer base among small and mid-sized businesses.

ZhiGuan hopes to create a chance for Taiwan’s game industry to turn around with AI

When discussing the opportunities for Taiwan’s game industry brought by the addition of AI, Zhong Xingbo, general manager of ZhiGuan’s finance and management center, told 《巴哈姆特》 and 《中央社》 that local game companies in the past had relatively less advantage in the mobile game sector. With the arrival of the AI era, each company is actively preparing and hopes that AI will bring different experiences, believing this could be an opportunity for Taiwan’s game companies to turn things around.

Zhong Xingbo said that AI can act as a 24-hour project manager, or as a non-player character that understands player behavior. He also revealed that its subsidiary China CyberDragon is moving toward a direction of omni-gaming and omni-entertainment.

Players don’t want to see developers use AI just to save costs

However, 《巴哈姆特》 and the West Xie section of the PTT forum received a cold reception. Most users believe that ZhiGuan only wants to cut costs or attract investors, and compare the current embrace of the AI trend with the hype of the metaverse from a few years ago. Some players have even explicitly stated that they refuse AI-generated artwork, emphasizing that if players only see AI as a money-saving tool, they won’t buy into it.

As generative AI enters the gaming industry, players are also communicating to developers that they don’t want a future where the quality of games is lowered because of cost savings. The biggest controversy recently in the industry was a series of negative reviews after Nvidia released a DLSS 5 demonstration video, and Huang Renxun has repeatedly emphasized that “developers will have content control.”

ZhiGuan’s game points service MyCard firmly holds the top spot, while third-party payments provider Lanxin Technology has also reached a transaction volume of over 8B yuan for consecutive years. However, the company also admitted that if you want to pursue clearly noticeable growth of more than double digits, you still need to rely on new products with explosive momentum launched from the game operations and R&D sides.
