21-Year-Old American Charged Friday in Israel With Spying for Iran in Exchange for Crypto

According to CNN, Eli Lavon, 21, a U.S. citizen studying at an ultra-Orthodox seminary in Jerusalem, was formally charged Friday with two counts of contact with a foreign agent and 14 counts of communicating information beneficial to an enemy. Prosecutors say Lavon was recruited via Telegram in November 2025 and directed to conduct surveillance tasks, including filming sensitive sites and concealing coded messages in public locations. He received cryptocurrency payments totaling approximately $1,379 from Iranian handlers for the material he provided, according to the indictment filed by Israel's State Attorney's Office.
