Trump Immigration Order Could Push Users Toward Stablecoins and Bitcoin ATMs

President Donald Trump issued a May 19 executive order that tasks federal regulators with considering tighter fraud screening for services to undocumented immigrants. The order directs the Treasury Department to craft guidance on peer-to-peer payment platforms used for off-the-books wage payments. Experts warned that reduced banking access could push some people toward crypto, cash, shadow banks, or organized crime networks. Tom Feltner said stablecoins and Bitcoin ATMs lack uniform protections that federal remittance providers must offer.
