U.S. Officials Suspect Iranian Hackers Behind Multi-State Gas Station System Breaches on May 17

GateNews

According to CNN, U.S. officials suspect Iranian hackers are behind a series of breaches into fuel tank monitoring systems across multiple states on May 17. The attackers exploited vulnerabilities in Automated Tank Gauge (ATG) systems that operate without password protection, gaining access to alter displayed fuel data in some cases, though actual fuel volumes remain unchanged. No physical damage or injuries have been reported. Security experts warn that compromised ATG access could allow fuel leaks to go undetected.
