The Stellar Development Foundation unveiled on Tuesday a three-stage roadmap to protect its blockchain network from quantum computing threats. Enterprise wallets can begin migrating to quantum-safe cryptography in 2026, with all accounts able to upgrade by the end of 2027 without changing their addresses or migrating balances. Unlike Bitcoin and Ethereum, Stellar's architecture separates account identity from signing keys, enabling the transition without disrupting user addresses. The foundation identified dormant accounts as an unresolved challenge, noting that any hard cutoff could freeze those accounts and will require community discussion rather than a top-down solution.
