According to Daily Star, Russia and Belarus conducted joint nuclear war games on May 24, involving 64,000 troops, over 200 missile launchers, 140 aircraft, 73 surface warships, and 13 submarines. The exercises featured test fires of intercontinental ballistic missiles Yars and Sineva, as well as medium-range missiles including sea-launched Zircon and air-launched Kinzhal. Russia deployed its latest Oreshnik intermediate-range nuclear-capable missile system to Belarus. Russian Defense Ministry stated the drills were designed for "preparation and use of nuclear forces under the threat of aggression." Putin claimed the exercises would "further boost the level of readiness of strategic and tactical nuclear forces." NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte responded with a warning that any use of nuclear weapons would trigger a "devastating" response.
