According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), a record 39.1 million Americans are expected to take road trips exceeding 50 miles during Memorial Day weekend 2026. Current gasoline prices are holding above $4.50 per gallon, a significant increase from $3.17 per gallon during the same period last year. AAA data indicates that average gasoline prices are at their highest level for this time of year on record, trailing only about 50 cents below the all-time high set in June 2022.
