According to the Chongqing Hydrological Bureau, heavy to torrential rains across central, western, and southeastern Chongqing from May 23–24 caused 22 rivers at 37 monitoring stations to exceed warning levels. Local areas experienced extraordinary rainstorms. The Water Resources Department forecasts additional swelling in mid-sized streams across central, western, and northeastern regions through May 27, with some rivers potentially exceeding warning or safety thresholds.
