According to Decrypt, on May 19, Echo Protocol's Monad blockchain deployment was exploited after attackers minted 1,000 unauthorized eBTC worth approximately $76.7 million using a compromised admin key. The attacker then deposited 45 eBTC into Curvance, borrowed approximately 11.29 WBTC ($867,700) as collateral, bridged the WBTC to Ethereum, and sent around 384 ETH (~$821,700) to Tornado Cash. Echo Protocol confirmed the breach in a statement on Tuesday, noting its investigation "indicates the issue originated from a compromised admin key affecting the Monad deployment." Based on current findings, approximately $816,000 was impacted on Monad. The team said it has "successfully regained control of our admin keys and burnt the remaining 955 eBTC" and paused cross-chain functionality while upgrading relevant contracts. The Monad network itself was not impacted and continues to operate normally.
