AMU Staff Arrested for Impersonating Gangster, Extorting $200K in Cryptocurrency from 8 Targets on June 3

According to The Times of India, Agra police arrested Hasmat Hussain, a junior staff member at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), on Monday for impersonating gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Between June 3 and his arrest, Hussain sent extortion letters to at least 8 AMU-affiliated individuals, including professors, doctors, and alumni, each demanding $50,000 in cryptocurrency with threats of severe consequences. Police used CCTV footage, hotel records, and technical analysis to trace and apprehend him.
